Frequently Asked Questions

Where is the studio located?

Both studios are located in Stuart, FL., within the same plaza, just a few doors away from each other.

Our Group Pilates Studio, located at 1855 SE Federal Hwy., is at the end of the building next to the Golf Gear store.

Our Private Pilates and Massage studio, located at 1841 SE Federal Hwy., is next to Avis Rental Car.

What should I wear?

We recommend wearing stretchy, comfortable clothes that let you move. You are welcome to go barefoot, but if you prefer to wear socks, we recommend sticky socks for safety.
Men, please wear compression shorts under regular gym shorts.

Is Pilates safe for someone who’s had joint replacement?

Yes! Pilates is the perfect complement for joint replacement rehab and maintenance. Pilates does not only improve flexibility and range of motion, but it also helps to strengthen the muscles around the joint. Of course, it is always wise to get a release from your doctor before engaging.

How is Pilates different from yoga?

While both Pilates and yoga place a strong focus on mind-body connection, Pilates emphasizes core strength and spinal alignment through its foundational principles of concentration, control, centering, flow, precision, and breath, differentiating it from yoga. Pilates also tends to be more physical, where yoga tends to be more spiritual. Unlike yoga, Pilates includes both mat exercises and exercises performed on the specialized apparatus using spring resistance. Pilates apparatus includes Reformer, Trapeze Table (Cadillac), Tower, Ladder Barrel, Pedi-pole, Wunda Chair, High Chair, Spine Corrector, and the Magic Circle—each designed by Joseph Pilates to support, challenge, and refine movement through his method.

What is Pilates?

Pilates is a system of corrective exercise developed by Joseph Pilates in the 1920s, originally called Contrology. It focuses on strengthening the entire body through a series of precise, flowing movements that emphasize breath, alignment, and control. Rooted in classical principles, the method is performed on the Mat and original apparatus such as the Reformer, Cadillac, and Wunda Chair. Pilates aims to restore natural movement, build uniform strength, and create balance between the body and mind.

Who is Joseph Pilates?

Joseph Pilates was the founder of the Pilates method, originally called Contrology. He developed his approach in the 1920s, combining his knowledge of anatomy, movement, and physical conditioning to help people build strength from the inside out. In his book Return to Life Through Contrology, he shared his vision for whole-body health and a series of exercises still practiced today. His legacy lives on through the classical method and its modern adaptations, all rooted in his belief that movement is the key to a healthy, balanced life.
